Islamic Education as the Foundation for the Development of Children’s Moral Character in the Digitalization Era

Nur Halimah

Abstract

The digitalization era has brought significant changes to children’s behavior, lifestyle, and moral development. Rapid access to information and technology provides both opportunities and challenges in shaping children’s moral character. This study aims to examine the role of Islamic education as the foundational framework for the development of children’s moral character in the digital age. The research employs a qualitative approach using a conceptual and literature review method by analyzing various scholarly sources related to Islamic education, moral values, child development, and digital transformation. The findings indicate that Islamic education plays a crucial role in instilling moral values such as honesty, discipline, responsibility, respect, and empathy through the integration of Qur’anic teachings, prophetic traditions, and exemplary conduct. Furthermore, the study reveals that the implementation of Islamic educational principles within family, school, and social environments can strengthen children’s moral resilience against negative digital influences. Therefore, Islamic education is not only relevant but also essential in guiding children toward positive moral development amid the complexities of the digitalization era.
